Between Bites bridges the delicious overlap between eating and storytelling. Food memories shape our personal experiences. Special meals become defining moments. Words fill the space between bites. We wanted to create an ongoing philanthropic forum for food-inspired storytelling, featuring six local influencers who cook, dine and chronicle their culinary lives and travels
LIZ GROSSMAN
Liz Grossman has been a Chicago-based writer and editor for more than 18 years. She’s the
editor of Plate magazine, a national, award-winning trade publication for the professional chef industry. In 2017, Liz covered the Bocuse d'Or competition in Lyon, France, and wrote a long-form story about Team USA’s historic gold medal win. The online feature won her a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Profile in 2018.
As co-founder of Between Bites, Liz is passionate about live lit and giving back to the Chicago food community. Her own live storytelling experience includes reading from her middle school diary on stage at Lincoln Hall, and as part of the Netflix series, The Mortified Guides. She’s participated as a volunteer in fundraising events for Meals on Wheels Chicago and Culinary Care, and has spoken about healthy menu trends and more for the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Throughout her career, her freelance writing has appeared in Newsweek, Southwest Spirit, Robb Report, Kitchen Toke, Veranda, Chicago magazine, The Henry Ford Magazine, and more. MOLLY EACH
Molly Each is a freelance writer, editor, and storyteller. Her work has appeared in Lucky Peach, Plate, Chicago Sun-Times, Splash, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Time Out Chicago, Daily Candy, Tasting Table, Michigan Avenue, CS, Minnesota Monthly, Twin Cities Business and Meal magazine, where she is an executive editor.
Her short stories and essays have appeared in Fresh Yarn, Eleven Eleven, Analemma Quarterly, Hair Trigger and Toasted Cheese. Her story “A Prostitute Comparison” was published in the anthology Briefly Knocked Unconscious By a Low-Flying Duck, and was performed by NYC theater company Bohemian Archaeology as part of their Boo(zy) festival. Her piece about Steve Bartman was performed by Theater Seven Chicago as part of the play “We Live Here,” which was nominated for a Jeff Award. She is a three-time Ragdale resident.
Molly has also penned content for brands like Four Seasons Hotel Minneapolis, Crate & Barrel, Kroger/Mariano’s, Apple Vacations, Mars, and Abbott Laboratories, and has done editorial branding work for juice bar Owen + Alchemy and Conrad’s.
She recently co-authored a book on cocktails, aptly called Twin Cities Cocktails.
After many years in Chicago, she relocated to her hometown of Minneapolis—but conveniently lives down the street from a legit Chicago hot dog stand.
RACHEL GILLMAN RISCHALL
Rachel Gillman Rischall is the founder of Three PR, a lifestyle PR firm with a focus on entrepreneurial food brands.
Rachel's passion for stories led to years of freelance writing, including contributions to Glamour.com, NBCChicago.com, Serious Eats Chicago, PopSugar and Parents.com. Never short on opinions, Rachel has appeared as a guest on Check, Please!, the NBC program 1st Look, Steve Harvey and Windy City Live. She was featured as a dining expert on CBS, Fox and WGN in Chicago.
As the mom of elementary school-aged twin daughters, Rachel is deeply relieved they still enjoy her storytelling...for now.
